The Department
of Career Preparation has established Student/Career Services Computer
Labs in the student services department in several middle and senior
high schools in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. These Student/Career
Services Labs are an effective way of delivering an array of personal,
social, educational and career learning experiences to groups of students.
By using the Student/Career Services Lab, students may receive career
and occupational awareness, and affective and cognitive learning while
becoming computer literate. A Student/Career
Services Lab assists students socially, personally, and educationally,
and may provide students with competencies such as study skills,
test-taking skills, resource utilization, and problem solving skills.
The lab may also help students by educating them in drug abuse prevention,
decision making skills, conflict resolution, listening skills and
knowledge of learning styles.
It is necessary to be computer literate. A computer
may be used for education, organization, creativity, and communication.
The use of a Student/Career Services Lab gives the students another
place to use their computer skills, and make good use of the internet
to do research, and gather information on careers, schools, financial
aid, etc.
The student/career services team: guidance counselor,
career specialist, TRUST counselor, CAP advisor, school psychologist
and social worker have access to the Student/Career Services Lab.
